The USD/CAD Exchange Rate

How many Canadian dollars it takes to buy one US dollar — sensitive to interest-rate differentials between the two countries.

USD/CAD is the exchange rate between the US and Canadian dollars — how many Canadian dollars it takes to buy one US dollar. It moves with many factors, but interest-rate differences between the two countries are a major one: when Canadian yields fall relative to US yields, Canadian-dollar assets become relatively less attractive, which tends to weaken the currency.

This site's daily USD/CAD series is stitched from two Bank of Canada series: an older noon rate (through April 2017) and the current daily rate (from May 2017 on), joined into one continuous history back to 2009.
